The Other Film Festival was launched in 2004 in response to the lack of opportunities for people with disability to view stories reflecting their lived experience. The Other Film Festival was a trailblazer, becoming the first and foremost, disability film festival in Australia. The festival runs biannually, making the 2018 festival number 8.
Since 2004 the festival has grown in size and stature and is now a much anticipated highlight in the busy Melbourne cultural calendar. For three days filmmakers and audiences watch, discuss and debate all aspects of disability screen culture. The festival encompasses forums, workshops and panel discussions and this year sees the return of competitive screenings with three prizes up for grabs over over three different categories.
